Leith Flood Protection Works
The next phase of work under the Leith Street Flood Protection Scheme, which aims to reduce the risk of floodwaters spilling over channel walls and flooding large areas of Otago.
Improvements include:
- Providing public access to the river bed and terraces along part of the left bank.
- Construction of a new retaining wall along left bank.
- Shaping, stabilising and rebuilding weirs to stabilise river bed and avoid large waves.
- Raising the wall along the right bank to improve safety and increase freeboard (the height of the channel wall above the flood level).
United Scaffolding is providing essential propping and access services to enable engineering works.
Due for completion in early 2018.
